What is a mezcal tasting at Bar Singular?

Our guided tastings are dynamic, informative, and conversational. Through four pours we will talk about the makers of the mezcal, the process, and traditions in Mexican agave spirits.

Who conducts the tastings at Bar Singular?

Your tasting will be conducted by the founders/owners of Genius Liquids - Mike Groener, Charles Cheung, and Marcus Piña.

Do you offer private groups?

Yes, we welcome private parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, work parties, and other small groups. Make a reservation or contact us and we’ll customize an experience for you.

How long does a tasting last?

Your guided tasting reservation is for 90 minutes. Tastings last about 40 minutes, with time to try other spirits, tour the distillery, and relax.

Do you serve cocktails or only tasting flights?

We serve a welcome cocktail at the start of the session, followed by a guided tasting through 4 x .75oz pours of mezcal, sotol, and/or gin. We also offer pours a la carte from the menu.

Is there food onsite?

While there is no food onsite we recommend Storehouse in Bastrop.

What is an agave spirit?

An agave spirit is a spirit distilled from the agave plant. Tequila, mezcal, raicilla and bacanora are all traditional agave spirits from Mexico. Bar Singular features mezcal agave spirit made in Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as sotol (relative plant of the agave) made from Texas plants, and our batches of gin.

Can I buy bottles there?

Yes. We have bottles of Creador, Genius Gin, and Old Highborn Gin available for purchase. We will also have some tasting room only special bottlings. Four bottle maximum purchase per month per TABC rules.

Where is Bastrop, TX?

Bastrop is 30 minutes from Austin, TX. Genius Distillery and Bar Singular are on the west side of Bastrop, located here.

Parking?

We have ample parking in front of the distillery.
